Leeds Festival-Copy and paste cause I feel compelled to use this journal.
Whoot, brillaint weekend. Best bands included Bedoiun Soundclash, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the disco,The Dresden Dolls, The Subways and Fall out boy...well they were Fall out boy but the sound was pretty crappy. Thats what you get in a field in the middle of nowhere, give me a tiny, sweaty venue anyday.
I got autographed stuff from FOB and Panic! cool to have. I misssed out on getting My Chemical Romance signed crap but I saw the Dresden dolls at the time. I am confident that this was the right choice in the long run, amazing as ever but still there more of a small sweaty venue band. It's just not the same when its in a tent and actually still bright out.Cover of The Kaiser Cheifs was pretty damn great.
Funny moment of me walking out of the Dolls set and wondering what a bunch of people were looking at.
Thinking 'that guy looks like Bob'
Realising that it was infact the real Bob and Mcr were all sitting infront of me. This will be funnier if you remember our TY trip last year when our bus driver well into his late 50's looked like Bob to me.
Taking back Sunday were class but I had only just arrived at the time so I was a bit back in the crowd. MCR, better than last time I saw them live, quite a few new songs. A little less 80's synth pop a little more bullets. That sounds cool, If I were them thats what Id name the album none of your 'Black Parade' nonsense.
I also ended up watching dashboard connfessional, not too sure why. They did good though Im not a huge fan, maybe Ill check them out.
Panic! were impressive.Good musicians, fun set what more do you want for a Sunny day? Urie thanked us for not bottling him.
Fall out Boy- Wentz ripped his trousers at the seams during the first song,he then proceeded to inform the crowd he was pleased with his decision to wear underwear as he had toyed with the idea of going commando for the day. Thats what he gets for wearing insanely tight girl pants.
The afformentioned Pete then incited a war between the two sides of the crowd. Team Joe Vs. Team Pete. Bottles lobbed across the crowd, not one of his best ideas. But I managed not to get hit.
After FOB ,I went to the NME signing place, got the nice photo's and the band members to sign them. I didnt really say much, damn my shyness. I managed to say 'Hi' Good Thanks' and 'Thank you' while Joe made random comments about Monkey men (Bert was sticking out of my bag at the time, I brought him to try get pics but there was so many people they didnt allow cameras) Same for Panic! yet I managed to breify inform Brendon the band should come play in Ireland and for some reason 'Hi Jon!' kinds hyperly he laughed and smiled alot.I like him.
Then for my Highlight of the weekend, The Bedouin Soundclash completely restored my faith in all things good in the world.(Ok that may be a little strong but it's an amazing memory) I was in the tent with my mam who I had tag along for the last band of the night. The band eventually takes to the stage and instead of hearing the opening of 'Gysai went home' like I was expecting the singer, Jay began to talk. I could barely make it out, his voice was very low and he sounded very sick.I then figured that was what he was talking about. He went on to say they werent going to play the show but they decided to go ahead anyway and he was sorry if he sounded like shit.
Cue rapturous applause before they played 'Gysai went home' Shelter' 'Rude boy dont cry' and probably something else Ive forgotton. Everyone was dancing!! There was these big guys around my Brothers age, kids, people my age, me, my mam, other old people. All just dancing around and singing. It was great never been to a gig quite like it before. They Jay attempted to speak to the crowd again, apologizing profously for his voice and thanking the crowd for being great. Throughout his little talk people in the crowd shouted out random encouragement 'Go on Mate' and 'You sound fine' to him. It was true his voice sounded grand once he was singing, a little broken but fine. When it came to 'When the night feels my song' we got a little talk, now his voice was pretty gone by this stage but I got the gist. He was speaking about music. How music, is just music no matter whee it comes from how it's used etc.If you like something your opinion of it should be changed by how popular, how underground, how cool, how commercial it is ('When the night feels my song' is on the new T- Mobile add on tv now)
Just listen to the music, nothing else matters.
I liked his little rant and after it he requested that if anyone knew the words please do sing along as he could really do with the help.
The crowd was more than willing to obliged and from the first line every person in the packed tent was singing at the top of their voices.
Far from sounding shitty as one would think this many (partly tone deaf, some including my mother not even really knowing the words) people singing would, it sounded fantastic. It is a rather sing along type song after all. It was pretty much just us singing and the band doing the instruments (By the was the Bass player is AMAZING)
The song ended the band thanked the crowd, apoligised again and left the stage after only a few songs. Everyone understood though and began to make their way out of the tent. Some one the other side of me started to sing again and soon the whole was once again full into the chorus of 'when the night feels my song' It was very damn cool. The band returned to the stage Thanked the crowd again, apoligised for the fact that they really couldnt play any longer. Cue more rapturous applause and shouting from the crowd before everyone filed out of the tent smiling like crazy and uttering the word 'Amazing'
